The first owner of "La Poncia" was Mr Luigi Beretta who originally bred horses for trotting. In 1910 the trotting horses were replaced by racing horses and after some time the estate was purchased by the Visconti di Modrone family. It then became an important centre for horse breeding. In the 1940s Benigno Crespi (whose family owned "Il Corriere della Sera" ) considerably contributed to the reconstruction of the stable.
At the same time as breeding thoroughbred "La Poncia" champion race horses the race course also called "La Poncia" became famous in the equestrian world for its cross country, gallop and trotting tracks.

Between the 1960s and the 1980s a variety of activities took place in "La Poncia" such as the breeding of trotting horses, a riding school and stabling: in this period the polo game was starting to grow in Lombardia at the "Monza Polo Club" this quickly became well known but unfortunately lacked certain sports facilities. Only at the end of the 1980s did polo in Lombardia find the right location at "La Nuova Poncia"; after significant structural improvements it became one of the most important sports complexes for the game of polo in Europe, competing with the most prestigious English clubs.
"La Nuova Poncia" also offers a members only relaxation area.
Polo is the principal activity of this country club, every year the management organizes spectacular national and international tournaments on its five regular fields. A large number of boxes are used to stable horses from the different sports.
